The Bastar Interior

This journey follows the deep interior of the Bastar plateau, away from the common roads and through its most significant cultural and geographic landmarks — from the 10th-century stone architecture of Barsur to the falling water at Tirathgarh. The “Soak” means slowing to the forest’s own pace, and it closes with a visit to a protected village in the Bastar interior, reachable only through our field lead, where daily life still follows the Shaman’s rituals.

Phase 01: The Plateau Entry (Day 1)

Day 1: Arrival in Jagdalpur. A slow introduction to the capital of the frontier. After a brief exploration of the local rhythms, we transition to the Bodal to establish our base in a traditional homestay.

Day 2: A day dedicated to the artisanal heritage of the region. We visit a Bell Metal (Dhokra) artist village to watch the ancient lost-wax casting process. This is followed by an entry into the Kanger Valley, where we observe the tiered cascades of Tirathgarh within the national park.

Day 3: A drive to Barsur, an ancient site holding the architectural remains of the 10th century. We spend the day witnessing the giant Ganesha monoliths and the twin temples, followed by a visit to the Muria tribe monoliths—the stone records of ancestral history.

Day 4: A day of vast scales. We visit the seasonal mists of Mendri and Tamda Ghoomar, followed by a transition to the Michnar ridgeline for a panoramic view of the plateau. The day concludes at the massive horseshoe curve of the Chitrakoot waterfall.

Day 05: The heart of the journey. We visit a Shaman’s village to learn about the spiritual traditions of the region, then continue to a protected village in the Bastar interior, reached only through our field lead. Here we share a traditional meal and take part in the rhythm of forest life, before returning to Bodal.

Day 06: A final morning in the forest before the transition back to Jagdalpur for departure.

Ancestral Stewardship:

Our field team is made up of local masters with a lifelong bond to these forests — guides who know the terrain, the routes, and the people who live here.

Economic Integrity:

Every local partner and field master is paid a pre-agreed, industry-standard fee — paid directly, in full, either in advance or in person before we leave.

Operational Mastery:

Entry to the protected village on this journey is never guaranteed in advance — it runs through a single field partner who holds the only sanctioned access, built on trust earned over years on the ground. A refusal is always possible, and always respected.

Two Ways to Keep Exploring

Chhattisgarh — Where We Began

Our home ground, and the only place we run every journey ourselves, start to finish. No chains, no middlemen — just our team and things we know.

The Outposts — Where Trust Travels

The same standard, carried into Ladakh, Kashmir, Meghalaya and beyond — through field partners we’ve trusted for years.
