The Granite Threshold
This route is for those who value the silence of the high country. We move beyond the main transit roads to stay in outposts where the forest meets the snowline. From the 1,500-year-old wood-work of Baga Sarahan to the final settlement of Chitkul and the views of Kalpa, the focus is on presence. We have timed this journey to witness the shifting mountain light on the Kinner Kailash massif—a world defined by stone, cedar, and high-altitude clarity.
Phase 01: The Baseline (Days 1–2)
Day 1: Arrival in Shimla. A day to adjust to the 7,000ft elevation. Evening spent observing the local life of the ridge.
Day 2: Movement to Baga Sarahan. We leave the highway for this hidden meadow village. Visit the ancient temple to see the traditional slate-and-timber construction.
Phase 02: The Baspa Entry (Days 3–4)
Day 3: Drive into the Sangla Valley. We follow the Sutlej riverbed before climbing into the Baspa corridor. Residency in the Sangla basin.
Day 4: Sangla Stillness. A day to walk through the village. We visit the Kamru Fort—a stone record of the region’s history.
Phase 03: The Frontier Edge (Days 5–6)
Day 5: Moving to Rakcham. This is the area where the forests thin out and the alpine terrain begins.
Day 6: The Last Village. A slow drive to Chitkul, the final settlement before the border. A day by the river, under the scale of the granite peaks.
Phase 04: The Kinner Kailash Witness (Days 7–8)
Day 7: Movement to Kalpa. We climb to the outpost overlooking the Sutlej gorge.
Day 8: The Granite Horizon. A day of total stillness. We watch the light change across the 19,000ft wall of the Kinner Kailash.
Phase 05: The Final Return (Day 9)
Day 9: Final morning in the heights before the return drive to Shimla for departure.
