The High-Altitude Loop

This path is for those who seek the silence of the most isolated valleys in the Himalayas. We move beyond the main highways to follow the “Slow Trail” into the Miyar Valley, a landscape of massive meadows and glacial moraines. The journey then follows the Chenab river into the Pangi Valley—a region once used as a natural prison due to its sheer vertical walls. We prioritize presence over speed, staying in the Bhatori villages where the Buddhist and Hindu traditions meet, before crossing the Sach Pass to descend into the plains of Jammu.

Phase 01: The Baseline (Days 1–2)

Day 1: Arrival in Manali. A day for physical stillness to adjust to the 6,700ft baseline.

Day 2: Movement to Udaipur in Lahaul. We cross the Atal Tunnel and follow the Chenab river to the home of the ancient Mrikula Devi temple.

Day 3: Drive to Khanjar, the final village of the Miyar Valley. We leave the main road for a world of granite peaks and vast alpine flats.

Day 4: The Glacial Meadow. A day spent exploring the Miyar valley on foot. We observe the scale of the landscape and the Buddhist culture of the high-meadow settlements.

Day 5: Return to the main valley to visit Trilokinath. We spend the day at this white marble sanctuary—a rare site where Hindus and Buddhists worship the same deity.

Day 6: Movement to Killar. We navigate the “Cliffhanger” road, a narrow trace cut into the vertical walls of the Chenab gorge. Residency in the Pangi heartland.

Day 7: Sural Bhatori. A drive to the high Buddhist settlement of Sural. We spend the day witnessing the stone architecture and the silent rhythms of the upper valley.

Day 8: Hudan Bhatori. A day at the high-altitude lake of Hudan. We observe the alpine flora and the solitary lifestyle of the Pangi elders.

Day 9: Crossing the Sach Pass. A steady climb to the 14,500ft apex. We witness the snow-walls and the granite ridges before descending into the forest-rich valley of Bairagarh.

Day 10: Movement through the Chamba valley toward the plains. Final evening residency in the foothills.

Day 11: Final drive to Jammu for departure.
