The Kashmir Basin
This route focuses on the raw, monumental side of Kashmir. We leave the standard sightseeing paths to find the stillness of the upper reaches and the records of the 9th century. From the wood-and-brick architecture of Srinagar’s old city to the vertical granite of Sonmarg and the massive temple ruins of Avantipora, the focus is on the land itself. We have timed this journey to allow for a true witness of the mountain character—a world defined by forest line stillness, ancient stone, and the absolute silence of the high ridges.
Phase 01: The Silt and the Stone (Days 1–2)
Day 1: Arrival in Srinagar. A day to adjust to the valley floor. We establish our base on the water, observing the local life of the lake at a slow pace.
Day 2: The Old City. A morning spent in the interior of Srinagar. We walk through the old city to witness the medieval architecture and the silent craft of the local copper-smiths and weavers.
Phase 02: The Vertical Forest (Days 3–4)
Day 3: Movement to Gulmarg. We climb into the Pir Panjal range. After a steady ascent, we reach the high-altitude meadow. Residency in a quiet forest outpost away from the main hub.
Day 4: The Outer Ridge. A day of stillness. We move toward the outer circle or the higher ridges of Apharwat to observe the prehistoric scale of the Nanga Parbat massif on the horizon.
Phase 03: The Granite Basin (Day 5)
Day 5: Movement to Sonmarg. We follow the Sindh river into the high granite gorges. This is a landscape of massive walls and hanging glaciers. We spend the evening observing the glacial melt and the silence of the Thajiwas range.
Phase 04: The Basalt Records and Cedar Reach (Days 6–7)
Day 6: Sonmarg to Pahalgam via Avantipora. We descend the Sindh valley and move toward the Lidder valley. We pause at Avantipora to witness the 9th-century basalt ruins of the Avantiswami temple, a massive record of the region’s sovereign history. Residency in the upper Pahalgam forest.
Day 7: The Aru Frontier. A day in the Aru valley. We follow the stone-paths through the cedar forests, witnessing the lifestyle of the mountain shepherds and the clear flow of the glacier-fed streams.
Phase 05: The Final Return (Day 8)
Day 8: Final morning in the mountains before the return movement to Srinagar for departure.
