Heritage & Stillness
The Cadence of the High Desert.
This path focuses on the most remote corridor of the Ladakh region. We move from the Indus Valley into the Suru Valley, following the river to the base of the massive Nun-Kun peaks. The journey takes us across the Pensi La gateway and into the heart of Zanskar—a region that remained inaccessible for centuries. From the monolithic presence of the sacred Gonbo Rangjon to the high-perched monasteries of Lingshed, we prioritize the “Soak.” We ensure the timing allows for a true witness of a landscape where time is measured by the shifting light on the glaciers.
Phase 01: The Baseline (Days 1–2)
Day 1: Arrival in Leh. A day of total physical stillness to allow the body to calibrate to the 11,500ft threshold.
Day 2: A slow exploration of the Leh valley. We visit local landmarks to observe the ancient architecture and establish a baseline for the journey ahead.
Phase 02: The Western Entry (Day 3)
Day 3: Moving west toward Kargil. We follow the Indus river, pausing to witness the confluence of the rivers and the shift in the landscape as we enter the gateway to the Suru Valley.
Phase 03: The Suru Transition (Day 4)
Day 4: Departure for Rangdum. We follow the Suru river as it winds beneath the towering Nun and Kun peaks. We establish our base in the high-altitude meadows of Rangdum, surrounded by glacier-fed streams and the 18th-century monastery.
Phase 04: Into the Heart (Days 5–6)
Day 5: Crossing the Pensi La pass. We descend into the Zanskar valley, moving toward Padum. The view of the Drang-Drung glacier defines this transition.
Day 6: The Sacred Monolith. A day to witness the Zanskar interior. We make a journey to the base of Gonbo Rangjon—the solitary “God’s Mountain”—observing its massive granite face before returning to the Padum outpost.
Phase 05: The High Threshold (Day 7)
Day 7: Leaving Padum for the high-perched village of Lingshed. We follow the newly forged road through deep gorges and over the Singe La (16,590ft), eventually transitioning into the “Moonland” landscape of Lamayuru.
Phase 06: The Final Return (Days 8–9)
Day 8: A final transition back toward Leh. We move along the riverine path, observing the shift from the deep Zanskar interior back to the central valley.
Day 9: Final morning in the mountains followed by departure from Leh (IXL).
